What Difference Does it Make?

Last month’s article was the last in a series of creation-science issues. It opened with the statement, “The next two issues will deal with the most fundamental spiritual results of this deception {evolution}.” As you have probably noticed, creation-science is a fascinating subject for me; probably significantly more fascinating for me than for most of you. However, I must point out, that regardless of my fascination for the subject, the understanding of the science alone is totally meaningless. I suppose that most of you have some subject that fascinates you. I hope so. But, I hope you also truly understand that regardless of how fascinating the subject is, no matter how important you think that subject is, “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.” Eccl 1:2       UNLESS; it affects your walk with Christ!

Let me explain. My own personal testimony is a prime example.

I was raised in a Christian home with Christian parents, Grandparents, pastors, Sunday School teachers, even public school teachers. I studied the Bible, memorized scripture, was confirmed, had numerous youth responsibilities with the church, and by anyone’s definition of their observation, I was a saved individual. But, you see, it isn’t up to “anyone’s definition.” It’s up to God’s judgement alone.

My senior high biology teacher used the classic bait and switch question, “How many of you believe man evolved from an ape?” Hardly anyone raised their hand. She then said, “Good. Because evolution does NOT teach that. It never has!” We were all relieved, and waiting for the next statement. She continued, “Evolution is a theory that suggests that man AND ape evolved from a common ancestor.” We were all still relieved – kind of. But by the time the chapter was completed, most of us had swallowed the lie.   But let me say it one more time, it isn’t the lie that mattered, it was our walk with Christ that was seriously crippled.

This “crippled walk” was seemingly benign at first. Most fatal diseases are unnoticed at first. But it didn’t take long before Genesis Chapter 1 was mentally removed from my Bible. This is like having one of your vital spiritual organs surgically removed from your body.

Then another single sentence of the Bible didn’t seem to fit my “faith.” So it was also surgically removed. This verse would have been seemingly so trite that I don’t even remember what it was. Then another was removed. Followed by yet another. After only a few years, I could reinterpret or surgically remove practically any verse that didn’t justify my own “life style.” The others – I could ignore. Pure and simply put, this is spiritual suicide.

Fortunately – by God’s grace – Henry Morris (of the Institute for Creation Research) debated a professor on our college campus. I attended that debate and there was no question that science did provide evidence of creation. The Holy Spirit used this debate to plant a critical seed that took another six years or so to germinate. Praise God that it germinated!!!

It really doesn’t matter whether you understand the first ounce of creation science. What matters is your faith in God! This is the only truly important reason to study the science of creation. If you can’t have faith in His word, you can’t possibly have faith in Him!
